EKAM ECO: Waste Water Treatment

Summary of Project: Traditionally houses were built with septic tanks/soak pits. With the increase in the size of the buildings, the size of the tanks started increasing. Gradually as the density of the population increased the soaking capacity has decreased, thus leading to overflowing of soak pits. With the addition of bacteria to treat both the sewage water as well as the Fats  Oils and Grease we are able to reduce the contaminants in the wastewater 

Issue the Project is Trying to Address: The addition of natural bacteria which is able to treat the sewage as well the Fats, Oils, and Grease which are generated in the wastewater from the houses,  will ensure that the groundwater resources are free of contaminated water. Housing complexes/houses do not have space for building STP or increasing storage. By the addition of bacteria, we are able to treat the water in the existing infrastructure. 

Successes Seen in the Project: The company has been successfully treating sites all over India. We have been using these units in Goa for the last year and have provided societies with suitable solutions for their problems with wastewater.

7 years 

Lessons or Innovation Others Can Learn From Today as the world is facing a problem of shortage of water, reuse of water should be primary. Also, all efforts should be made for reduction of usage of water. 

Challenges the project is still facing and needs to overcome: The general public is not aware of such systems. Their usage patterns and lifestyles need to be changed. Financial support by the government will incentivize people in setting up such systems. With an increase in volumes, the popularity and confidence of people in such systems will increase

Support or Connections Project is Looking for:  Creating awareness of such projects and also the hazards of improper waste treatment will assist in preventing climate change. Sharing the success stories of existing users to build confidence in people.
