Electronic waste (from discarded computers, TVs, printers, phones, etc) is more toxic to human health than other forms of garbage. This is primarily due to the presence of certain metals and plastics which are difficult to remove from these items. Such waste requires special facilities to be recycled properly, and Goa has no such dedicated facility. Instead, the state exports most of its e-waste to one of several government-recognized recycling centers in cities outside the state. While Goa is comparatively much smaller in size than other states, the volume of e-waste the state generates is increasing quickly. This report outlines the practice of e-waste collection, disposal and other statistics across Goa’s sectors and municipalities.
