Summary of Project: With the increase in urbanization and the density of population living together has led to the concentration of waste generated. This has also led to reduced spaces where waste can be treated. We aim to decentralize the waste generated thus providing treatment facilities. The increase of NIMBY ( Not in my backyard  ) phenomenon has led to opposition of landfills and no space for setting up treatment facilities

Issue the Project is Trying to Address:   Centralised treatment facilities require a lot of lands and also more than 50 % of the budget for waste management is spent on transportation of waste to the centralized plants. By treating the waste at their own site, the generator is benefiting from  the energy and also assisting in treating the waste

Successes Seen in the Project: Various restaurants have been using these units and thus have been getting a financial benefit of savings in LPG as well as treatment of waste. Institutions who are financially weaker have huge savings in operational cost due to the savings in LPG expense.

Individual houses have been saving about 50 % of their expenses in LPG, just by treating their daily waste generated

Duration under which project has been running: The project has been running for more than 4 years

Lessons or Innovation Others Can Learn From:  Bio methanation plants are a simple organic method of converting wet waste and using the energy generated. They require the least amount of space and it also provides major financial benefits and cost-saving with the reduction in LPG. It is one of the few waste management methods which provide high value in returns.

Challenges the project is still facing and needs to overcome: The general public is not aware of such systems. Financial support by the government will incentivize people in setting up such systems. With an increase in volumes, the popularity and confidence of people in such systems will increase

Support or Connections Project is Looking for:  Creating awareness of such projects and also the hazards of improper waste treatment will assist in preventing climate change. Sharing the success stories of existing users to build confidence in people.
